Important Information
Disclaimers
The Registered Federal Benefits Specialist℠ (RFBS℠) program is committed to clear, honest disclosure. The information below explains what this website is, what the RFBS℠ designation is and is not, and the limits of the relationships created when you use this site.
1. Educational and Informational Only
This website is operated by Federal Employee Benefits Advocates, LLC (“FEBA”) and is provided for general educational and informational purposes only. Nothing on this website constitutes, or is intended to constitute, legal, tax, accounting, investment, insurance, or other professional advice. You should not act, or refrain from acting, on the basis of anything you read here without consulting a qualified professional who is familiar with your specific situation.
Reading this website, contacting FEBA, or submitting an inquiry to an RFBS℠ designee through this website does not, by itself, create an advisor-client, attorney-client, accountant-client, or fiduciary relationship of any kind.
2. No Federal Government Endorsement
The Federal Government, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), the Thrift Savings Plan (TSP), the Social Security Administration, the Department of Defense, the United States Postal Service, and all other federal agencies and instrumentalities do not favor, endorse, recommend, sponsor, or approve any individual, company, product, service, designation, or view associated with FEBA, the RFBS℠ program, or any RFBS℠ designee. References to federal benefits programs are for educational purposes only.
3. What the RFBS℠ Designation Is
The RFBS℠ designation indicates that the holder has completed the FedEd Academy™ curriculum, passed a proctored examination, agreed in writing to abide by the RFBS℠ Code of Ethics, and maintains the designation through continuing education and an annual maintenance fee.
4. What the RFBS℠ Designation Is Not
The RFBS℠ designation is not:
- a license to give investment advice, sell securities, sell insurance products, practice law, or prepare tax returns;
- a federal certification, federal license, or any form of government credential;
- a substitute for any state or federal license, registration, or regulatory approval an individual must obtain to provide regulated financial, legal, or insurance services;
- a guarantee of the quality, accuracy, or outcome of any advice or service provided by a designee; or
- a warranty that any RFBS℠ designee is a fiduciary, an investment adviser representative, a registered representative, an attorney, a CPA, or holds any other credential beyond those they specifically disclose to you.
The depth of services any individual RFBS℠ designee can provide depends entirely on the other licenses, registrations, and credentials that designee holds. You should independently verify all licenses and registrations before engaging any designee.
5. Independent Relationship of Designees
RFBS℠ designees are independent professionals. They are not employees, agents, partners, or joint venturers of FEBA, the RFBS℠ program, FedEd Academy™, or one another. Each designee operates their own practice, sets their own fees, makes their own recommendations, and is solely responsible for the advice, services, and products they provide.
FEBA and the RFBS℠ program do not supervise, endorse, recommend, or guarantee any designee. Listing in the RFBS℠ directory is not a recommendation. We do not verify the day-to-day conduct, recommendations, products, or pricing of any designee.
6. How the RFBS℠ Program Is Compensated
In the interest of full transparency:
- Designees pay tuition to FedEd Academy™ to complete the curriculum required to be eligible for the RFBS℠ designation.
- Designees pay an annual maintenance fee to FEBA to remain in active RFBS℠ status, and complete required continuing education (CE).
- FEBA and FedEd Academy™ are commonly owned. FEBA is the parent company of FedEd Academy™.
- FEBA does not charge designees lead-generation fees, per-inquiry fees, directory-placement fees, or any percentage of revenue earned from clients introduced through this website.
- FEBA does not receive referral fees, revenue shares, or commissions from clients who become customers of an RFBS℠ designee.
7. Directory Accuracy
Information about RFBS℠ designees displayed on this website — including names, firm affiliations, contact information, areas of specialty, languages spoken, and continuing-education status — is self-reported by each designee and is provided “as is.” FEBA makes reasonable efforts to verify designation status but does not independently verify, and is not responsible for, the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of designee-supplied information. You should independently confirm any material representation before engaging a designee.
8. Third-Party Websites and Links
This website contains links to third-party websites, including the websites of FedEd Academy™, individual RFBS℠ designees, government agencies, and educational resources. FEBA does not control and is not responsible for the content, privacy practices, or accuracy of any third-party website. Inclusion of a link does not constitute an endorsement.
9. Forward-Looking Statements and No Guarantee of Results
Any statements on this website regarding retirement outcomes, investment performance, tax savings, insurance coverage, or financial results are illustrative only. Past performance is not indicative of future results. Federal benefits rules, tax laws, and regulations change frequently and may affect outcomes described or implied on this website.
